Zanzibar’s arts council bans entertainment activities on Maulid Eve

Unguja. The Zanzibar Arts Council (BASSFU) has announced a significant restriction on entertainment activities.

According to the notice issued by the Communications and Information Unit, the directive will take effect on the night of September 15, 2024.

The Council, which operates under the authority granted by Law No. 7 of 2015, has mandated a suspension of all arts and entertainment events on the eve of the Maulid celebrations for the birth of Prophet Mohammed.

The ban on Maulid Eve, a night marked by significant religious observance and communal activities, aims to respect and uphold the sanctity of the occasion.

 The Council underscored its commitment to maintaining cultural integrity while balancing the diverse aspects of Zanzibar’s artistic and entertainment landscape.

Institutions and individuals planning to hold or participate in any arts or entertainment activities on this night are urged to comply with the new regulation.

The notice clearly states that any violations will result in stringent legal measures, reflecting the seriousness with which the Council is approaching this directive.

The decision reflects the Council’s role in regulating and overseeing activities related to the arts and entertainment across Zanzibar, ensuring they align with cultural and religious observances.
