Vodacom Tanzania to refund customers following internet disruptions

Dar es Salaam. Vodacom Tanzania yesterday said it would refund customers whose bundle usage was disrupted by recent internet outages.

The internet disruptions in Tanzania and other Eastern African countries started on May 12, 2024, following the failure of an undersea cable between Mozambique and South Africa.

However, the connectivity was restored yesterday after the submarine cable issue was addressed.

Vodacom Tanzania said its affected internet services and the availability of some of its services had now been restored.

“Over the next few days, customers who had recharged or had bundles that were not consumed due to the outage will be refunded accordingly,” said Vodacom Tanzania managing director, Mr Philip Besiimire.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank our customers for their patience during this time. We also extend our gratitude to the service providers who collaborated with us to restore services swiftly,” he added.

He said efforts were ongoing to maintain the highest standards of services, including uninterrupted internet provided by the company.

The going has been tough for Tanzania and several other African countries due to the internet outage that inconvenienced businesses, service providers and consumers alike.

As such, service providers have been ramping up efforts to utilise their own internal systems in an effort to ensure that they remain in business and continue serving their clients.
