Airtel restores internet services, offers bundle refunds

Dar es Salaam. Airtel Tanzania has announced the full restoration of internet services and pledged to refund affected customers for the disruption that occurred on May 12, 2024.

A press release issued by Airtel Tanzania’s public relations manager, Jackson Mmbando, confirmed that internet services are now fully operational, allowing customers to resume their online activities without interruption.

The disruption, which originated from a failure in submarine optic fiber cables, resulted in the unavailability of internet services across the country starting from 11:00 hrs on Sunday, May 12, 2024.

The outage was attributed to faults in multiple undersea cables, crucial for connecting systems and supporting internet and telecommunications infrastructure in the region.

This incident impacted approximately 80 million users in East Africa.

Mmbando expressed Airtel Tanzania’s commitment to providing reliable connectivity and assured customers that measures are in place to prevent similar disruptions in the future.

Furthermore, Airtel Tanzania has undertaken to refund customers who were unable to utilize their internet bundles during the period of service disruption.

“We take this opportunity to inform our esteemed customers that internet services have been fully restored,” stated Mmbando. “Airtel Tanzania is dedicated to ensuring a seamless online experience for our customers, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused during the outage.”

The prompt action taken by Airtel Tanzania to rectify the internet service disruption underscores the company’s commitment to customer satisfaction and reliability.

As internet connectivity plays an increasingly vital role in daily life and business operations, Airtel Tanzania’s restoration efforts are poised to have a significant impact on restoring normalcy to the affected regions.
